Introducing: The Naturals
They're here! We've launched our Naturals collection of silk corsets in sumptuous silk satins – the perfect foundations for elegant vintage attire or formalwear.
Before we released this collection, we asked you what pressing questions you had about foundation corsets – and boy did you deliver! Below are the answers to the top three questions, plus a bonus question about corsets in general.
1. Are they comfortable for regular activity?
A corset will never feel like yoga pants, but a proper fit will make a huge difference to your mobility! If the corset is the right length and shape for your body, you should feel supported but not hindered. Corsets may cause small shifts in your habits: for example, you may bend from the knees instead of the waist (which is better for your back), or eat smaller, leaner meals more frequently, avoiding foods which may expand in your stomach or make you feel gassy. As you can see, rather than being dangerous, a corset can actually encourage healthful choices.
2. How do I clean my corset?
An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure! Wear a lightweight camisole or similar as a liner to protect your corset from the inside. Air it out overnight, and spritz with a 50/50 solution of vodka and water between cleanings. When a full cleaning is needed, take your corset to a trusted dry cleaner.
3. How can I get a corset to look extra smooth under my other clothes?
Again, a good fit is your friend here! You won't have any spillover if the fit is good. You can also ask for a sleeker construction, like internal bone channels (rather than exterior casings) and a flat binding, like petersham ribbon. Have you seen our new Invisible stitching? The bone channels are completely hidden for a smooth look, and our Couture binding is more discreet at the top and bottom edges. We also have petersham to match each of our 7 Naturals fabrics.
and lastly... the big question:
How do I put a corset on by myself?
For this one, we're going to show, rather than tell! Miss Dark Garden laces herself into her Underbust Victorian corset. Though this video has been sped up, in real time this only took 2 minutes.
